Shengri La is a micronation in the virtual world, Second Life. An island archipelago of five islands, Shengri La features sweeping vistas of heart-stopping beauty, exquisite sunsets, and tumbling waves and waterfalls. All are welcome to visit Shengri La and enjoy her amenities, lazing beneath perfect flawless summer days, riding through marine or alpine landscapes, swimming in limpid waters, or dancing beneath a crystalline dome of stars.
Our lush island nation is lightly inhabited, by autochthonous fashionistas and artists and by IBM researchers who have been absorbed by the native population. Our utopian community of scientists, artists and fashionistas live creatively on the land, collaborating on projects that incorporate a range of disciplines from science, arts and letters. We honor the seekers after knowledge; celebrate the creative spirit of our artists; and respect our inhabitants for each unique and wonderful being that they are. We support our residents and their talents through our maintenance of our open, uncensored spaces. Our artists have uncensored exhibit space; our scientists have uncensored space to explore whatever project interests them; and our fashionistas have visually complicated, uncensored spaces in which to create. Above all, we seek to embody the spirit in which our lands were named: Shengri La, Shengri Love, Shengri La Joy, Shengri La Hope, Shengri La Peace.
We do not sell or rent land – while Shengri La is a collection of wide-open sims, landscaped in a natural fashion, and many would love to have land there, we have neither the time, nor the inclination, to handle land management with renters. All are welcome to visit, to sail, ride or otherwise enjoy the landscape, but as they say about real life: take only memories, leave only footprints.
We invite all residents of the metaverse to visit us. Shengri La: Where dreams come true.
